15 fabulous filmi houses
Eclectic apartments, cosy cottages, and beautiful bungalows—here are some of the most splendid-looking houses featured in Hindi cinema.
1. This magnificent and mystifying mansion-in-mourning in Trikal (1985).
The film was shot in cartoonist Mario Miranda’s family home in Loutolim, Goa.
2. Rakhee’s eclectic apartment in Doosra Aadmi (1977). Total love for her embossed nameplate.
3. Nestled in the lap of nature, Mala Sinha’s cosy hillside house in Gumrah (1963).
4. This dedicated stargazing section in Amitabh Bachchan’s spacious terrace flat in Mili (1975).
5. Whimsical Maya’s warmly lit, white-inspired house in Ijaazat (1987).
6. The beautiful bungalow in Chupke Chupke (1975) with its splendid terrace and garden. Apparently, it belonged to the film’s producer, NC Sippy, and was later sold to Amitabh Bachchan, who turned it into his iconic residence, Jalsa.
7. Mr India’s (1987) “kamre ke aage balcony, balcony ke aage garden, garden ke aage samandar…” house. And boisterous kids and dead cockroaches to make it homey.
8. The all-sorts-of-awesome castle with a rainbow coloured driveway in Raju Chacha (2000).
9. This elegantly designed and styled living room in Masoom (1983).
I have always admired the tasteful placement of houseplants in the film and was quite impressed to see the team behind it recognised prominently in the opening credits.
10. The lively aesthetics of Smita Patil’s house in Waaris (1988).
11. Gracy Singh’s utterly gorgeous, earthy, and elemental house in Armaan (2003). Also, LOVE that green door!
12. The Mamaji vs clever bachche house in Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) that comes with great natural light and an amazing terrace garden.
13. Rahul’s colourful and cosy living corner in the dance studio in Dil To Pagal Hai (1997).
14. This brightly coloured shaadi waali kothi in 7½ Phere (2005).
15. The natural tones and the beautifully bohemian spaces of Antara and Shaukat’s expansive home in Shabd (2005).
